Some UserCrowd tests include tasks that you're asked to complete by clicking through a prototype. Designers use this test to find out if their interfaces are easy to use and navigate.

What is a prototype?

A prototype is a basic working model of a design or product. Our prototype tasks are an interactive sample of a design that you can click through as though you were using a real app or website. With prototype tasks, you will be able to play around with the features of an app or complete a task on a mock-up of a website without downloading any software or leaving your testing dashboard.

Am I being recorded when I take a test with a prototype?

We do not currently require that you record your screen, voice, face, or mouse movements when you take a UserCrowd test. If we introduce this option in the future we will always explicitly ask you for permission to do so.

What data does UserCrowd track?

We will only capture where you click while navigating through the prototype, and we will use those clicks to show customers the path you took while evaluating the design.

Why can’t I click on some parts of the prototype?

Prototypes are usually not fully-functioning designs, and sometimes not everything will be “hooked up”. You might try to click a button or an image that doesn’t do anything—that’s OK. There's nothing wrong with the prototype, and usually, this just means the creator hasn't included this section since it's not needed for the test. It’s not wrong if you click on something that isn’t hooked up; just complete the task as best you can by clicking where you think you should.

I'm not sure if I completed the task correctly. What should I do?

If you have followed the test's instructions but can’t figure out how to complete the task, you can click I'm done to give up and move on to the next question. Giving up on a test does not impact your tester score as long as you’ve made an honest attempt to follow the instructions and complete the task. If you don’t click anywhere in the prototype, your tester rating may be affected.

I've received a prototype test—why isn't it loading?

Report the test to us through your dashboard, or you can email us with the link to the test if this is happening. Your tester rating will not be affected.
