What is UserCrowd?

UserCrowd is a research panel where you can earn money by participating in short tests, design surveys, and even moderated interviews.

The tests and interviews you take part in on UserCrowd are created by designers, researchers, marketers, and product managers from a variety of industries, from all over the world, via our UX research platform called Lyssna.

If you accidentally signed up to Lyssna when you meant to take tests, you'll need to delete your Lyssna account and then you can apply for UserCrowd with the same email address.

Applying for UserCrowd

If you haven't yet created an account, head over to the UserCrowd website and click Apply Now in the top right corner of the page. Fill in the short application form and submit.

Joining the waitlist

Once you submit your application, you'll be placed on a waiting list. This is because the number of test or interview invitations panelists receive is based in part on customer demand, and we want to ensure we have the right balance of active panelists to meet that demand. We also want to make sure that if you're accepted into the panel, you are likely to receive assignments for both.

You don't need to take any further action after submitting your application. We'll send you an email if you've been moved off of the waiting list and are accepted to join the panel. Please do not contact our support team to inquire about your place on the waiting list or for an estimated timeline, as they don't have access to that information.

You also won't be able to change any part of your application while you are on the waitlist. If you need to change any of your information (name, password, etc.), you'll need to wait until you are accepted and update it in your profile.

Being accepted to join the panel

You will receive an email when you've been accepted to join the panel. You'll need to click the link in the email to verify your email address, after which you'll be asked to verify your mobile number. We only use your phone number to verify your location, you won't receive any messages from us after the initial SMS verification.

Taking the practice test

Once you've verified your phone number, you will be asked to complete a practice test. This test is to familiarize you with the types of questions and tasks you may commonly see. Please ensure you read and answer all questions carefully. For questions that require a written response, make sure you answer them completely and provide detail where requested. Please note that we do not provide compensation for practice tests.

Upon completion of the practice test, as long as your answers are approved, you will become eligible to start receiving assignments. Our team will still review your responses manually and you will be notified if your practice test is rejected.

Researchers often target specific demographics so make sure to complete your profile as a last step in the signup process so as not to miss out on any assignments targeted at your demographic!

How does UserCrowd work?

When a test creator requests feedback from the panel, their test or interview is sent out to a number of testers who match the demographics requested. Testers with higher ratings are prioritized for assignments—find out more about your tester rating here.

Once the required number of responses has been collected, the test or interview will no longer be available, which means you might miss out on an assignment even if you received a notification.

Tests will vary in length, subject, and type, so be sure to read instructions carefully to make sure you understand what is being asked of you in each test. Interviews can vary from 15 minutes to 2 hours so it's important to be aware of how long the interview is when applying to take part in one. You'll also need to make sure you are providing quality responses so please review our response quality guidelines before you get started.

You are paid based on how long we estimate the test will take to complete, and the notification you receive will let you know how much that is before you begin. Like tests, interviews will have a specific amount paid out depending on the length of the interview. Once you have taken enough tests and your credit balance reaches at least USD$10.00, you can request a payout. Find out more about getting paid in this article.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to pay to participate in tests or interviews?

No. We will never ask you for payment details in order to participate. We only use your PayPal account to send you the money you've earned when you request a payout.

How many assignments will I get?

Test and interview availability depends on several factors and we can't guarantee any number. Find out how to get more tests here.

How do I get paid for tests?

To receive payments from UserCrowd, you must have a PayPal account that can accept payments from international businesses. Make sure your account can accept international payments, as we'll have no way to pay you if payments are returned or rejected by PayPal. If you’re unsure, please contact PayPal to confirm there are no restrictions on your account.

Am I a UserCrowd employee?

No. You are acting as an independent contractor. Panelists are not employees of UserCrowd and are not entitled to any employee rights or benefits. You should not rely on it as a primary source of income.
